With all the new cellular phones, increased technology and booming market of prepaid cell phone service, it is necessary to touch on the subject of "What is the Best Protection" for my cellular phone?
Unlike, the olden days (yes I am up there), nearly everyone has a cell phone, whether it is issued by your company, family plans, or pre-pay the phone needs to be protected or it will not last. Most service providers offer a free phone with a two year agreement that you sign on the dotted/solid line. So now is the time to start taking care of your phone.
First, DO NOT leave your phone on the dash or seat of your car when it is hot. Heat will affect the shape of the plastic parts and can shatter the LCD screen. Plus, you may sit on it and break it. Carrying it in your back pocket is not a good idea. Many phones have been broken by forgetting it is in the pocket and sitting on leading to expensive repairs.
Second, protect your phone from being beat up. Remember the two year agreement. Use a case or pouch even if you do not want to carry it on your body. This helps protect the outside and LCD screen (pricy repair) should you inadvertantly drop it, Throwing it across the room in a heat of anger will damage your phone. Keep remembering the two year agreement.
Third, be sure to inialize the battery properly when it is new so it will last the length of time it should. Talk time eats up battery life. Using your phone in an analog (not digital) area will signifantly decrease talk time and standby time. Remember that GSM phones are only one band and cannot be used in an analog roaming situation. CDMA phones are usually dual band and have the ability to roam. Make sure to check to see if your plan includes roaming or your will incur high roaming rates daily and per minute. Be carefull and choose the right service plan for your needs. GSM phones do not roam on the old cellular towers. When you out of network you are really OUT OF NETWORK/SERVICE.
Fourth, if you have a GSM phone that is single band and service, carry a non-GSM (non-sim card phone or old bag phone - which has 3 watts of service vs 0.5 watts for handhelds.) with you when you travel because it will work for all 911 and 611 calls if you are out of the GSM network. Need-less-to-say, keep it charged up or have a charger with you.
Whatever you buy as a cellular phone, taking care of it is very important. No cellular phone dunked in water dies unless it is taken apart and all parts dried immediately.
Once again, This is only my opinion. The opinion of one who has done all of the above. Keep on talking!
