Installation of Motorola V120 Faceplates

Installation is easy.

1 - Simply remove all the screws on the back of the phone (6 of them, 2 at the top and 4 in battery compartment) with a T6 screwdriver.

2 - Remove the entire circuit board from the faceplate by lifting it off.

3 - Transfer the speaker and microphone and the 3 rubber switches from the old faceplate to the new one.

4 - Attach the entire circuit board and the back part of the phone to the new faceplate.

5 - Replace all the screws using a T6 screwdriver.

6 - Check function by placing a call to determine if you can hear and the other person can hear you. This is important.  If you do not have the screws tight enough you may not be able to hear or hear the other person.

If you have had a Nokia phone before and removed screws please be aware that the screws for the Motorola V120 are more difficult to remove and replace.  They take more effort.  Be sure to apply correct pressure when unscrewing and replacing screws so not to strip out the screws or the T6 screwdriver.

Installation of Nokia 6340

!

1. With the Nokia 6340 cell phone turned off, remove the battery cover and the battery.

2. Remove the 2 bottom Torx #6 screws inside the battery compartment using a T-6 Torx screwdriver.   For the Nokia  6340i you will also need to remove an additional cover on the back of the phone directly opposite to the speaker. To remove the top back cover, use a small flat head screwdriver and very gently press in on the latches and gently remove the cover.  Once removed you will see two more screws that you will need to remove.

 3. Once the screws have been removed, the bottom part of the faceplate becomes loose. Gently lift the bottom section of the faceplate off, and unlatch the faceplate at the top of the phone.

 4. Remove the speaker piece and power button from the original faceplate and transfer that to the faceplate.   Note the position of the speaker and put it in the new faceplate exactly as it was in the original faceplate or you will have trouble with sound.

 5. Attach the keypad to the new faceplate. Attach assembled faceplate to the cell phone, being sure to latch the top of the faceplate onto the phone first.

6. Re-attach the screws. Do not overtighten the screws.

7. Keep the original faceplate for the duration of the original one year warranty. This can then be replaced on your cell phone to allow you to send your cell phone into repair under the manufacturer's OEM warranty, should it ever need repair.

Installation of Motorola 720/721/722/730 Faceplates

**Keep in mind that if you ordered a full front faceplate (one that does not have the lens frame shape cut out in it), you will also have to remove the lens frame (rectangular, triangular, or circular piece left on phone after front face is removed).  They are held on by adhesive and pry off without problems.  You CANNOT install a full-front faceplate on over the lens frame.

Installation of Samsung X426/X427/E105/E315/E317/E316 and other Samsung models

!

Instructions for changing Samsung X426/X427/E105/E316/E315 faceplates.

  • Turn your phone off.
  • Open the phone and you will see two little silver semi-oval things covering the screws.  They are only stuck on with sticky tape.  Use a pointed object such as a needle or pin to lift those off gently (don't scratch up your phone) and keep them somewhere safe to reuse later.
  • After removing those two silver covers, you will see the very little screws (and they are little).  Use the triple zero philips screwdriver to remove the screws and put them in a safe place so they don't get lost.
  • After the screws are removed, you must pry the cover off using strong fingernails or pry tool from the hinge area first, and then unsnap down both sides.  Then the faceplate will come off, but some models are more of a struggle than others (esp. the X495/497).
  • Gently remove the cover, making sure not to disturb any of the parts of the "naked" phone.  I like to move over any spacers from the original cover, if they can be peeled off without tearing them, and put them in the new one in the same places.
  • Put the new front cover on from the tip to the hinge.  It snaps into place.
  • Put the screws back in, being careful not to overtighten them.
  • Replace the screw covers.
  • I've done a lot of these and the hardest part is prying the faceplate off from the hinge area to the tip.  Don't use a tool that would damage your phone.  Use strong nails or a pry tool to get it started and continue to use them to un-snap the sides.

Please note:  AKcessories takes no responsibility if you are not able to change the faceplate without damaging any part of the phone.  We always recommend, if you do not know how to do this, please take it to a dealer that installs faceplates or does repairs.  Some dealers who do not sell and install faceplates will tell you changing your faceplate will void your warranty.  There is no reason installing a faceplate should damage your phone if it's done correctly.  However, if your phone needs service for any reason, it's always good to put your original faceplate back on before turning it in.

We give this information to you, as a guide, from our installation experience and how it has been told to us from our vendors we purchase faceplates from.

Installation of the Motorola V3 RAZR, V300, V400 and V500 Series Phones

!
Installation of the Motorola V3 RAZR, V300, V400, and V500 Series Phones (i.e. V551, V557, etc.)

Turn your phone off.

Open the phone.

You will see four black or silver items in the four corners.  Those have to be removed (using a pin or needle )to see the screws.

Use a T5 or T6 torx screwdriver (depending on model - info under faceplates on our site) to remove the screws (these tools are also offered on our website).

Once you get the screws out, carefully remove the front cover and replace with the new cover.  In the case of the RAZR, a pry tool is very handy.  Also, with the RAZR, be careful not to lose any of the little silver side buttons.  If they fall off out, just slide them back in before putting the new cover on.

Replace the screws and silver stoppers.

The back comes off easily.  It is the battery cover.

Installation of Nokia 6101/6102i/6103 and Nokia 6255i/6256i

  • Turn the phone off.
  • Open up the phone.
  • Use a very fine/thin instrument like a tiny flathead screwdriver to gently run back and forth under the top of the rectangular metal "sticker" below your LCD screen (see red line in picture).  It will finally pop off and you will see the screws.  Be careful so as not to bend or scratch this piece.  It is held on with sticky adhesive so you can press it back into place after you change the faceplate.
  • Be sure to use the correct tool (T6); using an incorrect tool can strip the screws.
  • Gently remove the top cover and put the new cover in place.  I like to also move over any spacers from the old faceplate, if it can be done without ripping them.
  • Replace the screws and then press the sticky metallic piece back on the phone until it is smooth and even.
  • The back simply slides on and off.
  • The screw on the 6255i/6256i is hidden under a sticker a little lower than the line in the picture and comes off easier.

Installation Instructions for LG, Audiovox, Motorola, LG, and other flip phones

!

Faceplate installation instructions for all flip phones such as Samsung, LG, Motorola, Audiovox and others requiring installation with removal of screws.

Important!  Turn your phone off.

Open the phone.  Do this over a table so the screw covers or screws do not get lost (voice of experience).

You will see 2-4 silver or black circles or shapes in two or all four corners.  Those have to be removed to see the screws.  This can be done with a sharp needle or pin, being careful not to scratch your phone.  Some are held on by sticky glue and some are small rubber covers.

Us the correct tool to remove the screws (see the tool compatability list or the tool in the section with your phone model).  Using the incorrect tool can strip the screw tops.

Once you get the screws out, remove the front cover by prying it off with your nails or "pry tool", being careful not to damage any parts on your original.  It's usually easiest to start with the corners up near the hinge and unsnap down each side.   In some cases, you will wonder why they even put screws in to begin with.  We recommend gently peeling off any padding/spacers in the original front cover and putting it in the new cover if you can do it without damaging it.  In a few LG models, such as the C2000 and CE500, you will need to make sure the round camera battery (top near the camera) is pushed down onto the phone so that it makes good contact or the camera function will not respond later.

Replace the screws and silver or black covers/stoppers.

Some flip phones have a back piece that covers the battery.  The back usually slides off and on easily.  Make sure both corners are caught and the button on the phone has popped up into the hole for it.

Some flip phones only have a front faceplate because the back is a batttery (many Samsung models).  Flashing batteries can work with these type flip phones.  If you have a battery cover, consider a transparent, translucent, or laser cut phone cover as the flashing battery will be able to be seen better.

Installation of Holograms

!
Larger picture
Holograms go directly on the LCD screen of your phone, not the faceplate.  Be sure that the LCD screen is clean of any dirt or dust.  Peel the hologram off the plastic and adhere to LCD screen.  Holograms are decals so they need to applied just like decals making sure that there are no bubbles.  This can be done by starting from the middle and gently applying to the outer edges.  Some phone LCD's may be very small and the hologram may need to be trimmed.
