Why?  Because the signal is brought in by the antenna on top of the vehicle instead of trying to penetrate the glass or metal to get to your phone.  Yes, they really help.  Please note:  these are not intended to give you service where there is no service.  It helps in fringe areas and up and down hilly roads.  Remember, reception always gets worse when the leaves are on the trees. 

This adapter connects to an FME (not TNC) magnetic, glass-mount or roof-mount antenna.  It is comptatible with the Nokia 3360/3590/3595/3560/3585 cellular phones.  This adapter does not plug directly into your phone.  It has a cap that goes over the place where your internal antenna is.
